The North Sea, a sophisticatedly sailing area and is very interesting because of the tide. In contrast to (e.g.) the German Baltic Sea, the marinas in the North Sea are (even in the summer) not crowded and noisy. Looking from east to west, the East Frisian Islands consist of: Wangerooge, Spiekeroog, Langeoog, Baltrum, Norderney, Juist (free of cars), Memmert and Borkum. All marinas are located at the protected side in the south. Among the Islands you can find spacious mud surface and different streams, which show those places in another way hourly. Overall the East Frisian Islands are rather best for Sea Bears. The well-known island Helgoland with its "tall Anna" is located more distant to the coast and should be taken into account when planning your trip. Unfortunately large offshore areas are not navigable or locked because of nature conservation. The national park "Mud Sea" is divided into different kinds of districts. In each district you have to take notice of different regulations. From April until October you will definitely come in contact with few seals, which you can observe in areas specially made for them.
On the average the wind is blowing with 3 to 4 Beaufort from west to southwest. With a strong sea wind the flat water (due to the tide) is recommendable only for practiced sailors: a steep wave grows up and is not easy to handle for beginners. If there is furthermore a crosscurrent coming up, the trip becomes to a hard but very interesting challenge.
