Boat and Yacht Charters Lake Powell

Since most of the lake is in Utah, the ads are both listed in the Utah and Arizona section. Because of Wahweap Marina and its nearby support town of Page, which are located in Arizona, we want to give you some basic facts about the Arizona side first.. A major feature on the Arizona side is Glen Canyon Dam, which holds 27 million acre-feet of water, 560 feet deep at the dam. The Carl Hayden visitor center there is a must see. Lake Powell offers 1,960 miles of shoreline, counting all the canyons, longer than the west coast of the United States! Wahweap Marina is 4.5 miles north of the visitors center. There you will find rentals, tours, restaurants, gift shops, motels, trailer village, fuel, and about everything you'll need. The town of Page is only two miles from the dam. Two words describe houseboating in Utah - Lake Powell. Most of this giant, manmade lake lies in the Beehive State and the rest in Arizona. Glen Canyon Dam near Page, Arizona, backs up the Colorado River 186 miles into the southeast corner of Utah, not only up the Colorado channel but up the Escalante and San Juan Rivers as well. The resulting 1,960 miles of shoreline (more than the entire west coast of the United States) provides a wonderland of enjoyment. You'll bask in warm desert sunshine, watch cathedral-like canyons change colors against an azure afternoon sky, or drop a hook into crystal blue waters to entice some of North America's great freshwater gamefish. Or you can try hiking to ancient Indian ruins more than 1,000 years old, water or jet skiing in bay after bay of unparalleled beauty, or boating to see spectacular landmarks like the magnificent Rainbow Bridge National Monument. Then again, you could simply stretch out on the deck of your houseboat and wish you could stay forever. If you choose Lake Powell, don't miss Rainbow, an arch of ancient pastel sandstone looming 290 feet above a tributary of the mighty Colorado. It is the largest natural bridge in the world and is considered a sacred place by the Navajo Indians. It is located 50 boat miles northeast of Wahweap Marina. While you are in the area, explore as many canyons as you can. some of them wind up narrow, fascinating passages. Lake Powell is a beautiful centerpiece of the so-called Grand Circle - an area which includes Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, and Mesa Verde, Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks. Houseboats can be rented at three marinas in Utah, Bullfrog, Hall's Crossing, and Hite, as well in Wahweap Marina near Page, Arizona. Fuel, groceries and other items are available at each marina including Dangling Rope, a mid-channel marina. You can also rent a variety of water toys such as jet skis, power boats and other items at various locations. You can even book a float trip down the Colorado below the dam. You'll love the weather. Lake Powell averages 78 percent possible sunshine with summer temperatures around 100 and, best of all, water temperatures of 75 to 82 in mid-summer. Summer and autumn are most popular with boaters.
