Superyacht LAUREL was designed by Donald Starkey Design and features naval architecture and marine engineering by the Delta Design Group. The yacht boasts a striking exterior profile with fine entry and a gracefully shaped stern, combining chrome between her white superstructure and Royal Blue hull. The 73 m (241 foot) luxury yacht LAUREL has a steel hull and composite superstructure combining the best of today’s most advanced materials and manufacturing processes. She was the first large yacht built in the world to have an entirely composite superstructure from the main deck up providing significant weight savings. Megayacht LAUREL’s interior boasts a clever combination of communal and intimate spaces to make this large megayacht still feel like a home. The use of exotic woods, textures and glass create a comfortable yet extremely graceful atmosphere. The latest technology including a world-class entertainment system and 1200 point alarm and monitoring system is also integrated into this spectacular yacht. The interior of motor yacht LAUREL is very voluminous thanks to her huge beam of 12.30m (40' 4") and features a blend of anigré, furnished in an eclectic style. The yacht boasts a large main salon that is beautifully appointed with the finest of furnishings and décor and features large windows offering natural light and great views. There is a separate formal dining area where guests are treated to delicacies from the qualified chef. LAUREL has a sun deck that extends fore and aft of a central observation room – the forward part being a belvedere terrace and the aft part offering a gymnasium, spa pool and sunbathing area.

Captain – Mark Diekmann
USA. Captain Mark was born in Manchester, Connecticut but the Diekmann family moved to the small town of Tequesta, in the state of Florida, while Mark was still at a young age. The area was surrounded by the Loxahatchee River and it was around this river that Mark found his passion for life around the water. Through his teens, he became a competitive sailor, surfer and sport fisherman. Mark got his initial start in yachting when he was 17 years old and has been a superyacht captain since he was 28. He holds a Master of Oceans Motor and Steam Ships of 3,000 gross tons along with many other endorsements that he has attained throughout the 20+ years that he has been in the industry. In addition to yachting, Mark attended a prestigious Aeronautical university to fulfilll his passion of aviation. His experience and personality guarantee that your voyage on board M/Y Laurel will be a memorable one. On Mark’s off time, you will find him fishing and diving off the coast of Palm Beach, FL or hiking in the Northern Rockies.

Interior & GALLEY DEPARTMENTS:
Purser – Delphine François
France. Delphine was born and raised in Nice. Living near the water and sailing on her father’s boat gave Delphine a passion for the sea from an early age on. While at university, Delphine worked for the Port of Nice during the summers of 2001 to 2003 and discovered the yachting industry. Upon completion of her Master in languages applied to accountancy, economics, business & law in 2004, Delphine joined a yacht support company and became the agent of private & charter yachts ranging from 50 to 150 meters. In 2007, Delphine decided to switch her career from shore-based to on-board and worked on the motor yacht Lady Joy before joining Laurel in May 2008. Along with her native French, Delphine speaks English, German, Spanish & basic Italian.
In her spare time, Delphine enjoys swimming, practicing/teaching yoga, reading, going to the movies and travelling.

Chief Stewardess – Mélanie Chabal
France. Mélanie is native of Grenoble, the capital of the French Alpine region. She earned a Law degree in Lyon and studied at the Judiciary Institute with an eye to becoming a judge. Instead, she chose a career in yachting over 10 years ago. Mélanie believes her most important role is to be anticipating your needs and desires before you know them yourself and surpassing your expectations in fulfilling them.
Mélanie learned to ski when she was five years old and enjoys all kinds of sports and outdoor activities, as well as travelling, exploring new cultures, watersports, hiking and reading.

Head Chef – Daniel Cartwright
Australia. Dan has worked for 9 years as a Chef on board luxury yachts ranging from 40 to 80 meters, out of his 18 years in catering and hospitality. Prior to joining the yachting industry, Dan worked in a number of five-star hotels and restaurants in Australia, Canada, and the UK.
Originally trained as a Pastry Chef, Dan also gained professional experience in Asia, South America, Europe and the Pacific which broadened his knowledge of international cuisines. Dan looks forward to talking to you directly about creating personalized menus specifically to your liking to ensure you will have a first-class culinary experience on board Laurel. On his free time, Dan is an avid diver and loves anything that has to do with the water.

Sous-Chef – Trenton Devine
South Africa. Trent discovered his passion for food and the sea at a young age while growing up in the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay on the South coast of Southern Africa. His mother was a big influence in introducing him to food and his passion for the edible joys in life turned into a career. When he is not in the galley or out kite surfing, Trent also enjoys playing golf with his family or taking his many dogs up the mountains in Cape Town.

Second Stewardess – Sandra Jordaan
South Africa. Originally from Johannesburg, Sandra received a Bachelor of Business science, majoring in Law and Economics and continued her studies to gain a post-graduate diploma in Tourism management. Sandra’s love of travel and learning about new cultures has taken her all around the world, which is one of the many reasons she enjoys working at sea. Prior to joining Laurel as second stewardess, Sandra was a chief stewardess on board busy charter yachts ranging from 40 to 48m. Sandra also worked for a prominent royal family in the Middle-East and was the editor of a risk management magazine. Sandra loves to create lasting memories and fun events for her guests. She enjoys watersports, snow skiing, scuba diving and considers herself an ardent “foodie”.

Third Stewardess – Jodi Steyn
South Africa. Jodi was born and raised in Johannesburg. Her time spent working for an Arab Sheik in the Seychelles spurred on her love affair with hospitality & travelling. After completing a qualification in hospitality management, a career in yachting became the obvious choice in order to combine hospitality with her love for the ocean. Jodi is a perfectionist at heart and a firm believer in doing things right the first time. A quote that Jodi likes to live by is “A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people and of getting things done”.

Stewardess – Mieke Bosman
South Africa. Mieke grew up on a beautiful farm located on the foothills of the Drakensberg mountain range. In 2009, Mieke spent a year in Mexico as an exchange student where she learnt to speak Spanish amidst exploring all the wonders of the country. In 2012, Mieke graduated with a B.A. in Humanities and thereafter completed her post-graduate degree inEntrepreneurial Business management. Mieke is a very outgoing person who enjoys exploringand experiencing new adventures and challenges. She has a love for traveling and meeting new people. Mieke enjoys being active & outdoors, combined with a passion for good food & wine.

Stewardess – Helyn Tooley
South Africa. Helyn was born in Tzaneen in the north of South Africa which explains her love for the bush & the outdoors. Upon completing her teaching degree, Helyn spent a year in South Korea teaching English and this is then that she discovered her passion for travelling. Yachting became the favorable career to choose in order to fulfill her interest in both hospitality and travel. Helyn is an energetic, outgoing individual. In her spare time, Helyn enjoys exercising, experimenting with different cuisine & educational practices.

Stewardess – Michelle Van Rooyen
South Africa. Michelle has a love for traveling and meeting new people. She holds a bachelor of commerce honors degree in Industrial Psychology and is a qualified personal trainer. Michelle is a former international fitness model, with titles such as Miss Bikini Universe under her belt, which brought her to develop a very successful boot-camp business that she ran while studying Pilates and nutrition. Michelle motivates the crew to stay in shape by exercising and staying healthy. She loves the outdoors and adrenaline rushing activities such as jet skiing, diving, bungee jumping, and so on. Michelle has a positive attitude and looks forward to making each new guest\'s experience on Laurel an exhilarating one!

Laundry Steward – Bernardino Valerio Jr.
Philippines. Bernard is native from Quezon City, but grew up in the Province of Bulacan in the Philippines. Bernard was drawn to arts, drawing & mathematics from a young age which brought him to study fine arts & to graduate as an aircraft maintenance technician at the college of Aeronautics. While studying, Bernard also played table tennis for his school. Bernard starting his career at sea on cruise ships but then moved to yachts in hope for adventure and round-theworld travels. When not working, Bernard enjoys going on road trips and fixing computers.

DECK DEPARTMENT:

Chief Officer – Justin Harbrow
Australia. Justin spent most of his time outdoors while growing up whether it was while surfing, fishing or playing soccer professionally. Justin eventually started a landscaping business just so he did not have to work indoors! Justin joined the superyacht industry over 12 years ago and worked on several motor yachts, amongst them Lady Beatrice and Enigma, before joining Laurel in December 2012. Throughout his years in yachting, Justin completed his courses and obtained his Master’s ticket in 2011. When not working Justin’s time is occupied by his three children and teaching them how to have fun and enjoy life.

Mate – Daniel Ducrot
New Zealand. Daniel has grown up on boats and took every opportunity to go to his father’s work at the shipyard where he project managed ship construction and refits. Over the past 12 years, and before joining Laurel in May 2007, Daniel has worked on several yachts, from the expedition vessels Asteria & Flinders to the classic triple-masted schooner Shenandoah launched in 1902. Aside from sailing, Daniel’s hobbies also include listening to music, travelling and sports in general. Pursuing his love of boats and the ocean, Daniel is studying towards becoming a Captain.

Deckhand – Paul Bosman
South Africa. Paul grew up on a small farm outside the city of Kokstad on the East coast of South Africa. After completing school in 2006, Paul spent the year of 2007 as an exchange student in Brazil. Paul completed a B.A. in Social Dynamics and majored in Psychology & English in 2011. Paul then did a postgraduate diploma in Enterprise Management at the university of Cape Town. Paul joined yachting and Laurel in 2013 following his love of the water and his passion for travelling.

Deckhand – Ashton Buehler
USA. Ashton was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, doing lots of boating on the Great Lakes. Growing up he knew he wanted to do something on the water so yachting was the dream industry when he came across it. Ashton likes any extreme sports from racing motor
cycles and cars to kite boarding, snowboarding and rock climbing on his free time. Ashton mostly enjoys his time spent on the water teaching spear fishing and wakeboarding to guests and making sure they have a great time while aboard Laurel.

Deckhand – Minh Vu Soroño
Philippines. Minh has worked on both private and charter motor yachts for the past 18 years.
Following his love for the ocean, Minh completed his PADI rescue diver and Naui dive Master certificates. Minh has travelled to Europe, Alaska, Australia, Papua New Guinea, South America, and the Pacific islands during his yachting career, most of these travels on board Laurel. In his spare time, Minh enjoys scuba diving, snorkeling, playing video games and riding motorcycles.

Deckhand – Keegan Pope
South Africa. Keegan grew up on a beautiful sub-tropical farm in Louis Trichardt, South Africa.
He is passionate about fishing, water sports and golf. He is also an avid motor-cross enthusiast.
Keegan\'s passion for the sea and fishing ultimately led him to yachting in 2009 and has ever since found the profession to be exciting, challenging and interesting. You will find that Keegan is a very friendly person, always willing and available to help wherever needed.

Deckhand – Grant MacDonald
South Africa. Grant grew up in a small farming town in the Northern province near the Kruger National Park. After completing school in 2009, Grant went on to study at the Stellenbarch university where he qualified with a bachelor of science in Agricultural Economic analysis and management. Grant enjoys sports, particularly rugby, cricket, tennis and fishing. Grant joined the yachting industry at the beginning of 2014 with the dream of travelling the world at sea.

Engineering DEPARTMENT:
Chief Engineer – Mark Mudge
USA. As a chief engineer with 20 years of experience in the yachting industry, “Sparky” is committed to delivering the highest standards of quality and service during your time onboard.
Growing up on the waters of Long Island sound in New England, he began his affair with the sea. After a few years away at college where he tried to replace the ocean with the beautiful mountains of Colorado, the desire to return eventually brought him back to Florida. With his big smile, easy going attitude and experience, his main goal is to deliver a wonderful and trouble-free experience during your time aboard Laurel.

Second Engineer – Ross Levet
New Zealand. Ross completed his apprenticeship as an electrician and lived in the UK for 3 years while working and travelling extensively before returning to New Zealand for 6 years and beginning his career in yachting. Before joining Laurel in May 2011, Ross worked on board the motor yachts Michaela Rose, True Blue, Reverie, and Leander. In his spare time, Ross enjoys diving, playing tennis, travelling and renovating houses.

Third Engineer – Ryan Frith
South Africa. Ryan discovered a passion for travelling while on a rugby school tour through the United Kingdom & South America, and although he didn’t learn to sail until the age of 23, Ryan has not looked back since and loves his chosen career within the yachting industry. Ryan originally joined Laurel as a deckhand back in December 2009. Over the seasons, his position evolved to deck/engineer and Ryan is now back on board as third engineer after completing courses to further his engineering qualifications. Ryan is also a personal trainer and holds his PADI open water license.

Deck/Engineer – Alex Ferguson
Canada. Alex grew up on the East coast of Canada, in the port city of Saint John, Newbrunswick. He is a licensed power engineer with 5 years of experience in nuclear power and oil & gas. Alex was looking for a new challenge so he decided to try his hand at yachting and joined Laurel in April 2014. When not working, Alex enjoys diving, hockey and snowboarding.
